About twenty members of Christ the King Parish gathered on Saturday morning, February 25, to consider the future of our parish garden project. The garden, begun in September with two raised beds behind the Saint Joseph rectory, is intended to provide produce for the Saint Vincent de Paul food pantry in Sharpsburg. At the workshop, we expanded our vision to imagine many ways that the garden could enrich the life of our parish community. We began with prayerful reflection on related themes: growing things, helping people who need us, building community, and using our creativity. We heard presentations on the food pantry, on an established North Side community garden, and on the features of our own space. Then, in small groups, we sketched out shared visions for the future of that space. Our parish Creation Care Team sponsored the workshop, and we will continue to work with other members of our parish and allies from the wider community to make more of our vision come true! Thanks to all who participated in the workshop, and especially to CCT member Melissa DeStout for taking the lead on workshop preparations.
